Supply and demand for the exercise of the teaching profession in the Salvadoran public sector (2014-2020)

Abstract

The aim of this essay is to offer a concise and precise description of the development of teacher training throughout the history of El Salvador during the years 2014 to 2020, Different investigations that address the topic have been used as a point of reference establishing a timeline of the changes that have occurred in relation to initial Teacher Training in the country. With the purpose of contextualizing and reflecting on the supply and demand process of the Teaching Profession, qualitative and quantitative information has been taken as a reference on how the phenomenon has developed in the period of time from 2014 to 2020 and thus describe the strengths and limitations that were identified during this process. A deep reflection has been generated on the behavior of the phenomenon based on the number of students enrolled and graduated from teaching careers, thus being able to contrast these figures and determine the number of students who enter education careers and how many of them manage to complete their studies. Subsequently, it has been analyzed among those who graduate, how many manage to enter the public educational system with a job placement and how many of them do not, due to the high supply of teachers in recent years. Finally, a reflection is made about how although these teachers have the conviction to develop their professional practice effectively, they encounter a different reality in which they do not have the opportunity to perform professionally.
