The challenge facing the communities of the Cordillera del Bálsamo regarding artificial intelligence education

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become one of the most influential technologies of the 21st century; it stands alongside the breakthroughs brought about by the advent of the computer and the widespread adoption of cyberspace. Its applications range from medicine and education to tourism and security. However, while digital advancements are progressing rapidly in large cities, in areas such as the villages of the Cordillera del Bálsamo—namely Tepecoyo, Jayaque, Comasagua, Tamanique, Teotepeque, Jicalapa, Chiltiupán, and Talnique, the new reality seems not to have been sufficiently understood, and the digital divide threatens to leave their inhabitants behind if they do not jump on board this vehicle of the technological revolution.
