The regional security model in the Central American Integration System

The Central American region faces many challenges, of which we can highlight: Lack of financial resources, institutional weakness of some SICA member countries, impunity, increasing complexity of threats to regional security, high mobility of criminals in the region, corruption in the security forces, climate change, which increases the risk of natural disasters. The Framework Treaty on Democratic Security is the basic legal instrument of the Central American Security Model, which is based on democracy and the strengthening of its institutions and the rule of law; on the existence of governments elected by universal, free and secret suffrage and on the unrestricted respect for all human rights in the States that make up the Central American region.
